Many observe Good Friday; many rejoice and honor Jesus’ Resurrection on that Sunday, but how many truly think about what took place on Holy Saturday? I know I hadn’t thought about it.
As I study God’s Word for myself, I am in awe of all Jesus truly sacrificed for us. I’m drawn closer to a Father that loves me so much He sent His only Son to die on a cross for my and the world’s sins.
I was studying to see which Gospel mentions the most about Holy Saturday. I prayed for wisdom as I studied Matthew 27:62-66, along with the commentaries from the Life Application Study Bible, Tony Evans Bible Commentary and a study by Jake Daghe from Passion City Church, Atlanta, GA. https://passioncitychurch.com/article/a-scriptural-look-at-holy-saturday/
Matthew 27:62-66
“The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.”
This scene in this Scripture gripped me and reminded me of all the evil in the world. Evil is so rampant in our society, we almost become immune to it. The evildoers have already succumbed to lies they believe from our enemy. I see why God sent Jesus into the world. Although evil, still exists; we have a Savior in Jesus. He is alive and has all power.
While naysayers and haters were still scared of Jesus’ claim to rise again on the third day, they tried to stop what could never be stopped: God’s plan. while they were hashing out their plan, Jesus was defeating death and taking the keys from hell. (Revelation 1:18)
God‘s love for us and His plan to save the world from sin would not be stopped.
